Thick Skinned

SKIN.jpg

The team at Axolotl Metal are excited to introduce an inspired new range of metal surfaces.

‘Skin’ combines the raw, natural beauty of leather with the hardwearing qualities of metal, resulting in a unique textural finish that feels as good as it looks.

The new textures, along with all of our finishes, are created using real metal and have the durability to suit high traffic areas. ‘Skin’ can be applied to any surface from flat panels to compound curves. The textures are suitable for a broad range of design elements, from doors and furniture to feature walls and counters.

These images feature the textures in Bronze yet it is just as easy to achieve a 'Skin' texture in silver, copper or brass tones.

Make An Entrance

When doors are the first thing you notice on entering a home it is surprising that they seem to be the last thing you think about. So it is interesting that studies in the US commissioned by door manufacturer, Therma-tru, revealed a larger, more elaborate door can significantly increase a home's perceived value. As much as 3.2% to 6.6%! According to Therma-Tru, this was an increase in value of four to five times the cost of the door.

Axolotl have been innovating door design for a number of years now and have two new designs to whet your appetite - the Mecanno door featured here in Zinc, and our routered Floral door in pewter.

If these still aren’t individual enough for you, how about creating a personal statement with your own design. It is easy with Axolotl as any design element used within the residence can be incorporated in to your front door design. As all our doors are custom made, these designs can follow through to side or header panels which can be constructed to any size in either metal or glass.

Rouse Hill

Axolotl have been busy this last quarter working on projects as diverse as the new Westpac on George Street,  the Wentworth Hotel and the new Rouse Hill Town Centre. All are major projects and all quite diverse in their style.

Rouse Hill, pictured above and below, comprises over 1000 sq m of rust coated lasercut aluminium screens, door frames and I beams. To match the design, the glass in the 48 four metre tall door frames were printed with Axolotl’s new Miro laminated glass 13.52mm thick.

The overall effect is quite spectacular thanks to the genius of Philip Chia. It’s definitely worth a trip to Rouse Hill for a look.

Axolotl currently have over 150 projects underway that include Lindt, Star City, Rockpool, Park Regis, American Express and Ernst and Young.

Miro - Visions in Glass

Miro shows off its beautiful qualities at the Loft Lounge in Melbourne, and on the stunning Milne & Stonehouse commission located in Brisbane's inner city.

The secret of Miro lies in the printed interlayer which is laminated between two sheets of glass. Any image, pattern or graphic can be incorporated and the interlayer can be clear, translucent or opaque. Both faces can be viewed but are always protected making the finished product both practical and versatile.

Internally the panels can be used in feature walls, doors, balustrades, art pieces, splashbacks or shower screens. Externally the designs can be used for awnings, balustrades and facades.

Any design or image can be printed - so Miro isn’t just amazing to look at, but one of a kind

Rust - The New Black

Designed by Rice Daubney, this rust feature wall was specified for the new America Express Headquarters in Pyrmont.

Comprising over 160 panels and 40 sq m, the wall shows off the beautiful colours found in rusted iron. It's hard to imagine that the panels were manufactured fom MDF for ease of construction and installation.

Axolotl Rust has been a hot favourite in the industry for some time and has been used on doors, feature walls, signage and furniture. It's a timeless look that adds texture and warmth to just about any setting

Axolotl Wins 3 Awards at Designex

 Winner: LINK

Company: AXOLOTL

Judges Comments: “The judges were uniformly blown away by the design potential of LINK. We could have spent hours guessing the technology: from designer to inventor to materials scientist: every judge was enthralled.”

We are blown away by the accolades and interest in LINK, but not surprised. ‘Link’ is the perfect integration of science and beauty that can only be delivered by the integration of Axolotl Metal and Axolotl Glass.

This unique product contrasts a traditionally course material with the delicate nature of glass so the rust appears to float in the air. Link can be used for screens, feature walls, doors, signage and balustrades. In fact anywhere you require beauty and durability as the product can be used in and outdoors. As with all our products, the final design can also be custom made to your specifications.

As well as ‘Best New Product’ award at Designex, Axolotl won two awards for ‘Best Stand 30-70m’ and ‘Best Dressed Stand’. Rusted screens formed the walls and ceiling and Axolotl's ‘Miro’ glass laminated floor featured an enlarged clover leaf design. Link was of course included, as columns and external glass panels. The PVC poles were coated in ‘Skin’ by Axolotl Metal. This beautiful stand was created by Philip Chia.

Nickel of Time

The lift realised in this makeover definitely justified the efforts, fast forwarding this foyer from the 80’s into a more sophisticated design.

The ceiling panelling in this building is the result of smooth nickel bonded to panels and then a cast texture created. The metals reflect off the ceiling panels making a most inviting entrance.

This texture is another new look created by Axolotl. This year alone we have introduced numerous new textures, metal combinations and applications.

Glass Houses

This beautiful bathroom is a complete study in glass with every surface a shining testimony to its beauty.

Stephen Varady designed the bathroom, specifying heavy weight glass for the bath and shower screens and colour backed glass for the walls and floor.

Glass is a natural alternative to tiles, boasting the same easy care properties but with a broader creative palette that is much more unique.

Axolotl can design and manufacture to any specification and creative vision, in and out of the bathroom. Give us a call if you would like to discuss how you can turn your design project into a glass masterpiece.

Jewel in the Crown

The Lustre range developed by Axolotl has certainly created a stir and it’s easy to see why.

The counter and cupboards pictured here were specified for Macquarie Bank in Melbourne and manufactured in Lustre ‘Onyx’ to create a contemporary and unique look.

Exclusive to Axolotl and with six beautiful satin finishes in the range, the glass panels can be carved to any design or backlit to create signage or feature walls.

Smart Blade

Axolotl was the facade of choice for this blade wall in Bondi designed by Architects Johannson and Associates (AJA).

This superior facade system allows the panels to be mechanically fixed without showing exposed fixings. The end result as can be seen here, is a clean, neat finish that can also be fitted around complex shapes.

A Pearl Patina was applied to copper, enhancing the beautiful natural colours of the metal and resulting in a warm tone to blend perfectly into the environment.
