Dye-hard Designs

Extending the creative boundaries of dye-hard designers, Axolotl is introducing its colourful new architectural glass panels.

Called Lucent, the range takes screening to an enlightening new level. Each glass panel is deep carved to a standard or custom design, with translucent dyes injecting a kaleidoscope of colour.

Lucent is ideal for screening where the play of natural light can be manipulated to maximum effect.

Colour can be applied on one or both faces of glass, creating depth and tridimensionality, with bespoke designs allowing the greatest control over the level of visual obscurity.

The Lucent range has commercial and residential screening applications from intricate detailing to large-scale decorative features.

Fences by Axolotl Metal

Security and privacy are essential criteria for most commercial and residential projects, but often it’s a challenge to achieve both without compromising the aesthetics or overall design concept. Gates and fences bonded with Axolotl Metal provide a beautifully practical solution to this design dilemma. Axolotl Metal is an ideal material for external screening and security elements due to its durable, weather resistant characteristics and its ability to be bonded to practically any material.

Custom designed lasercut steel, CFC or phenolic resin panels bonded with Axolotl Metal allow maximum control over levels of privacy whilst creating a striking feature. Even more complex forms can be achieved by stacking or layering panels and incorporating different metals, textures and patinas.

Sculpture by the Sea

Award winning sculptor Mark McClelland's latest work 'of memory' will be shown for the first time at this year's Sculpture by the Sea, in Mark's Park, Bondi. Constructed from steel plate and bonded with Axolotl Aluminium, the sculpture is a span structure, cantilevered into space from one fixed point

Mark says the work is based around the ideas of risk and commitment. A significant engineering feat, the work is so finely balanced that it moves in a breeze, yet despite this apparent delicacy, is engineered to function as a seat, and will comfortably support the load of people sitting on it. Under this load 'of memory' will oscillate, delivering a kinetic experience to the viewer/user.

Sculpture by the Sea commences tomorrow and runs until 15th November.

Link up with Veil

18 months on from winning best new product at Designex for 'Link', Axolotl have produced some beautiful new designs when combining the technology of 'Link' and the subtle beauty of 'Veil', our carved glass range.

The designs above, Poppy, Avalanche and Espresso, are just three examples of the endless possibilities to create a stunning glass feature in your domestic or commercial project.

Rust is inlaid into the glass on one face and a complementary pattern is carved onto the other, creating depth and tridimensionality. This product is ideal for any location where a sense of privacy is required, whilst allowing light and movement to be retained.

A similarly striking effect can be achieved through Veil alone which involves carving a design to both faces. Varying degrees of visual obscurity can be achieved, depending on the chosen pattern and scale, providing varying degrees of privacy. Our latest designs in this range are Frond, Oceanic, Lava and Nexus.

Glass Reflected in Metal

Now it’s easy to creating a cohesive designer look in metal and glass. Almost any motif, photographic reference or illustration can be transferred between the two mediums offering virtually unlimited applications. The work shown here has been produced using Axolotl Rust applied to a lasercut screen door. The same design was sandblasted to a frameless glass door. The end effect creates individual impact, with the sum of the parts even greater through the harmony of the design story.

Both processes are equally able to be utilised on doors, feature walls, counter fronts, garage doors - practically anywhere, inside or out, where you desire to create a unique impact.

When one door shuts...

Axolotl bring you two innovative new ranges, 'Skin' and 'Etch'. These collections are the product of intense research and development by Axolotl, combining cutting edge techniques with original new materials.

Shown here in the image above to the left is a door coated in our dramatic new Viper Bronze finish from our recently launched 'Skin' series that evokes images of torn snakeskin. The texture can be replicated in any of Axolotl's metals and for any size, shape and substrate.

The image in the centre is a stunning door from our 'Etch' range, finished in Treasury Bronze with a custom design etched into the face of the door and seamlessly continuing through onto the glass panel. This series lends itself to an endless range of designs from modern linears to luscious organics to work in with the design elements of any space. Both of these finishes can be applied to virtually any building or design element. Think feature walls, counter fronts, garage doors, practically anywhere, inside or out, where you desire a contemporary, eye-catching design.

The other images are examples of just a few of the striking doors created by Axolotl. The 'Shiver' door above to the right is in Axolotl Treasury Bronze with a Pearl Patina. And of the doors below, the carved 'Marrakesh' design is in Axolotl Brass Pearl Patina, the 'Cortex' door in the centre is in Axolotl Bronze Florentine and the ‘Channel’ door is in Axolotl Bronze Pearl Patina.

All of these doors can be seen on display at our stand at Designbuild, from 21st - 23rd May 2009, we'd love you to drop by and see us. Alternatively you can view the doors at our showroom alongside our large designer and contemporary door collection including the awarded 'Signature' series of doors.

Think Outside the Box

Garage doors are one of the first features of a residence people see yet often look like they’ve been left to last on the design front. A big part of this is that, until recently, the aesthetic options have been limited to conventional garage doors that look like, well, garage doors. Once again, Axolotl Metal have manipulated form with function to create a range of garage doors that are only limited by your imagination. The substrate of garage doors make them ideal for any of our metals, textures and aging effects and it’s relatively easy to incorporate your lasercut or routered pattern or design to achieve an even more unique and innovative effect. The images here are examples of distinctive garage doors recently completed by Axolotl. Above is a design by artist Susan Cadby where the panels have been lasercut to a custom design and coated in Axolotl Brown Rust. The result is an organic, highly unique piece. Below is a completely different but equally stunning design by architect Michael Folk of Campbell Luscombe Folk Lichtman. The fragmented strip design is coated in just one metal, with the sections defined by different textures, polishing techniques and surface effects to achieve a subtle yet striking result. A complementing Axolotl front door can also be incorporated into a building façade design unifying the completed look.

Winning Combination

Art has been a major part of Axolotl since its inception. We have worked with some of Australia's best artists and sculptors including Richard Goodwin, Colin Lancely, Janet Lawrence, Warren Langley, Terrence Plowright and Gaye Porter.

We're very excited to continue our involvement with another talented artist at this year's Sculpture by the Sea.

Taking out the major award this year is Mark McLelland's 1.5 tonne sculpture. 'She Thought' is  manufactured from mild steel and bonded with Axolotl Treasury Bronze.

You'll find 'She Thought' at the top of the hill framing the ocean at the end of Marks Park along the sculpture walk between Bondi and Tamarama.

Sculpture by the Sea is on now and runs until 2 November.
